The police caught him. He said he did nothing wrong. The company said they did not know. He will be in prison for many years.

English:

Dmitry Volkov, Group-IB’s co-founder, will assume Sachkov’s leadership responsibilities, it added.

The company, which is headquartered in Singapore, is an official partner of Interpol and Europol and has hosted senior international law enforcement officials at its conferences in Moscow.

Dmitry Peskov, president Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, told reporters on Wednesday that Sachkov’s arrest “had nothing to do with the business and investment climate in our country”, according to Interfax.

“He was in a grey area because of the industry he worked in. The secret services consider cybersecurity to be part of their territory. So either he crossed a line, or he crossed somebody’s interests,” said a person who has worked with Sachkov.

Russia’s FSB, the successor agency to the KGB, has arrested several prominent scientists, cyber security officials, and a former journalist in recent years on treason charges, which carry a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

In 2019, a court sentenced a former top FSB cyber security official to 22 years on treason charges for passing information along to the US.

1. assume sb’s responsibilities ——

Dmitry Volkov, Group-IB’s co-founder, will assume Sachkov’s leadership responsibilities, it added.”

为什么好: 学生写人事变动,只会 take over 或者更糟的 be the new leader。 另外注意这句的尾巴:it added(该公司补充说)。

Group-IB said that Dmitry Volkov will be the new leader of the company.

Dmitry Volkov, Group-IB’s co-founder, will assume leadership responsibilities, the company added.

When the project leader left, a junior engineer quietly assumed responsibility for the hardest part of the work.

2. be headquartered in / be an official partner of —— 三句话介绍一家机构

The company, which is headquartered in Singapore, is an official partner of Interpol and Europol and has hosted senior international law enforcement officials at its conferences in Moscow.”

The company is in Singapore. It works with many big organisations. It is very famous. 最后用 has hosted(曾接待)补一个具体事实。

The company is in Singapore. It works with Interpol and Europol and other big organisations. Many important people visit it.

The company, which is headquartered in Singapore, is an official partner of Interpol and Europol and has hosted senior law enforcement officials at its conferences.

The school, which is headquartered in Xiamen, is an official partner of Cambridge English and has hosted teachers from more than ten provinces.

3. have nothing to do with X ——

Sachkov’s arrest had nothing to do with the business and investment climate in our country.”

This is not related to that 或者 It does not affect it。have nothing to do with X The rise in screen time has nothing to do with the quality of online learning.

The spokesman said this accident is not related to the economy of the country.

The spokesman said the arrest had nothing to do with the country’s business climate.

This has nothing to do with…

4. be in a grey area / cross a line ——

He was in a grey area because of the industry he worked in. … So either he crossed a line, or he crossed somebody’s interests,” said a person who has worked with Sachkov.”

This is a very complicated situation.

His job is very complicated because nobody knows what is allowed. Maybe he did something wrong, or maybe he made some people angry.

He was in a grey area because of the industry he worked in: either he crossed a line, or he crossed somebody’s interests.

Creators of AI-generated lessons work in a grey area, and it is only a matter of time before one of them crosses a line.

5. carry a sentence of up to X years / be sentenced to X years for doing ——

原文出处: “on treason charges, which carry a sentence of up to 20 years in prison” / “In 2019, a court sentenced a former top FSB cyber security official to 22 years on treason charges for passing information along to the US.”

He will go to prison for a long time.

If you pass secret information to other countries, you can go to prison for many years.

Treason charges carry a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, and one official was sentenced to 22 years for passing information to the US.

Academic fraud now carries a penalty of up to ten years, and last year a researcher was sentenced to four years for fabricating trial data.

(The charges are classified and details of them were not immediately clear. ——「细节暂不清楚」是新闻写作的必备句,也是议论文里承认信息有限的姿态),接着写机构回应(confirmed that law enforcement raided its offices but said it did not know the reason ——承认动作、否认知情,公司口径的标准结构),然后是人事安排(assume sb’s responsibilities),再由官方出面撇清(had nothing to do with),最后由知情者与法院分别给出定性(be in a grey area / cross a line)与后果(carry a sentence of up to X years)。

The founder of a major cyber security company has been arrested on suspicion of state treason. The charges are classified and details were not immediately clear. The company confirmed that law enforcement raided its offices but said it did not know the reason for the arrest, and announced that a co-founder would assume the founder’s responsibilities. A government spokesman insisted that the case had nothing to do with the country’s business climate. People who know the industry say he was in a grey area: either he crossed a line, or he crossed somebody’s interests. Such charges carry a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
