为什么你的文章读起来”平”？
很多学生写英语作文时，语法没错、词汇也对，但读起来就是没有起伏。所有句子都在一个平面上推进：先怎样、再怎样、最后怎样。
真正好的英文写作，句子之间是有张力的——先给一个正面，再用一个”But”把局面翻转。
今天从 FT 的一篇泰国疫情报道中学习这个技巧。这篇文章的漂亮之处在于：它用最简单的词创造了最强的叙事张力。

选自 FT 新闻报道 Thailand’s vaccine rollout falters（FT №126），描述泰国疫苗推展遇挫后民众的反应：
段落一：开篇定调——“先褒后贬”式反转
Thailand’s prime minister won plaudits for steering the country successfully through the first year of the coronavirus pandemic. But as cases rise and the vaccine rollout falters, big business and ordinary Thais alike have unleashed their anger and frustration at the government.
段落二：数字对比——“目标vs现实”
Thailand’s plan to vaccinate up to 50 per cent of its 70m population this year, and 70 per cent by 2022, has until now been based almost entirely on a single vaccine.
As of Wednesday, Thailand had vaccinated only about 600,000 people, less than 1 per cent of its population, and a lower rate than most of its south-east Asian neighbours.
段落三：第三方评价——用引语增加说服力
“Our vaccine acquisition programme has been abysmal,” said Cod Satrusayang, editor of the Thai Enquirer. “If you compare Thailand to any other country with similar GDP in our region, we are vaccinating at half that rate.”

核心写作技巧拆解
技巧一：开篇反转（Praise-then-Criticism Pivot）
这是本文最值得模仿的结构。只用两句话完成一个完整的叙事弧：
Thailand’s prime minister won plaudits for [成就]. But as [问题出现], big business and ordinary Thais alike have unleashed their anger and frustration.
结构公式： [某人/某国]因[正面成就]获得表扬 + But + 随着[坏消息出现]，[负面反应]爆发
❌ 学生初版 Thailand’s vaccination was slow. People were angry.
✅ 升级版 Thailand’s prime minister won plaudits for steering the country successfully through the first year of the pandemic. But as cases rise and the vaccine rollout falters, big business and ordinary Thais alike have unleashed their anger and frustration at the government.
💡 为什么好？ 升级版做了三件事：① 先给一个”赢家”的印象（won plaudits for steering successfully）② 用 But 制造转折③ 把主语从”总理一个人”扩展到”企业和民众 alike”——从个体到群体，张力一下就起来了。
模板： [Subject] won plaudits for [positive achievement]. But as [problem emerges], [stakeholders] have unleashed their [negative emotion].
技巧二：目标vs现实对比（Aspiration vs Reality Contrast）
用数字本身制造对比，不需要任何”however”之类的连接词：
Thailand’s plan to vaccinate up to 50 per cent… and 70 per cent by 2022…
As of Wednesday, Thailand had vaccinated only about 600,000 people, less than 1 per cent of its population…
结构公式： [宏大计划/目标] + [残酷现实/具体数字]
❌ 学生初版 Thailand planned to vaccinate many people. But they only vaccinated a few.
✅ 升级版 Thailand’s plan to vaccinate up to 50 per cent of its 70m population this year… As of Wednesday, Thailand had vaccinated only about 600,000 people, less than 1 per cent of its population.
💡 效果 升级版用具体数字的悬殊差别自己说话——50% vs 不到1%，7000万 vs 60万。不需要说”the plan failed”，数字之间的落差本身就说明了问题。这叫Show, don’t tell的极致应用。
模板： [Plan: ambitious target A]. [Reality: concrete data B that falls far short].
技巧三：用引语做”第三方佐证”（Expert Testimony）
一个好的引语比十句自己的分析都管用：
“Our vaccine acquisition programme has been abysmal,” said [expert]. “If you compare Thailand to any other country with similar GDP… we are vaccinating at half that rate.”
结构公式： 引语（直接引用具体评价） + 说话者身份 + 引语（用对比数据佐证）
模板： “[Strong judgment word],” said [credible source]. “If you compare [our situation] to [benchmark], [striking difference].”
技巧四：范围类词汇（Scale/Scope Expressions）
注意文章中如何表达”范围”的精确性：

💡 教学点： alike 放在名词后面表示”全部、无一例外”——teachers and students alike（师生无一例外），这个用法简单但高级，很多学生不会用。
针对性练习建议
- 练习”先褒后贬”开篇：选一个话题（如”某app一开始很受欢迎，后来用户不满”），用 won plaudits for… But as… unleashed their anger 结构写两句话。
- 用数字说话：找一个有你感兴趣数据的话题（如”学校图书馆的使用率”），用”目标50% vs 实际不到1%“的对比方式写一段。
- 写一个专家引语：模仿 “[判断],” said [身份]. “If you compare…” 结构，写一段模拟采访引语。
