学生写”某人态度变化”时,几乎只有一种句式:“At first he agreed, but now he changed his mind.”

Donald Trump refused to concede the US presidential election even after tweeting that Joe Biden had won the race for the White House — his first public acknowledgment of defeat since the vote nearly two weeks ago.

An early post on Sunday morning suggested the president was coming to terms with the outcome. But later in the morning he seemed to retract the admission that Mr Biden had prevailed.

Mr Trump is still pursuing legal challenges to the vote in several key swing states, despite numerous setbacks in court.

Before Sunday, Mr Trump had been showing some signs of understanding that he had been defeated in the November election, in which Mr Biden won the popular vote by at least a 51 to 47 per cent margin and the electoral college by a projected 306 to 232 votes.

手法一:动作让步 even after + V-ing

Donald Trump refused to concede the US presidential election even after tweeting that Joe Biden had won the race for the White House.

相比 “Although he tweeted that Biden won, he refused to concede”,even after 结构更紧凑,而且强调”做完某事后依然如何”,让步的力度更大。

Although he tweeted that his rival had won, he still refused to concede.

He refused to concede the election even after tweeting that his rival had won the race.

[Person] refused to [动作] even after [V-ing] that [事实].

例句

The coach refused to change the lineup even after admitting that the star player was injured.

An early post suggested the president was coming to terms with the outcome. But later in the morning he seemed to retract the admission that Mr Biden had prevailed.

态度反转最怕写得太武断:“At first he agreed. But then he disagreed.” 记者用了两层缓冲:suggested(暗示)和 seemed to(似乎)。

At first he agreed, but then he disagreed.

An early post suggested he was coming to terms with the outcome. But later that morning he seemed to retract his admission.

[时间] suggested [主体] was [状态]. But later [主体] seemed to [反转动作].

例句

The announcement suggested the company was accepting the fine. But later it seemed to withdraw its acceptance.

Mr Trump is still pursuing legal challenges to the vote in several key swing states, despite numerous setbacks in court.

“虽然遇到挫折”如果写成 although 从句,就要再配一个主谓:“although he suffered many setbacks in court”——句子就长了。

Although he had many setbacks in court, he still fought.

He is still pursuing legal challenges, despite numerous setbacks in court.

[主体] is still [动作], despite [名词短语].

例句

She is still applying for the scholarship, despite repeated rejections.

Before Sunday, Mr Trump had been showing some signs of understanding that he had been defeated in the November election.

Then he changed his mind.

Before the announcement, he had been showing some signs of accepting the outcome. But that morning, he reversed course.

Before [时间], [主体] had been [V-ing] [迹象].

Before the exam, she had been showing signs of confidence. But on the day itself, she froze.
