Recently, more and more people are paying attention to this problem.

With the development of society, … has become a hot topic.

The simmering war between the tech and media industries over generative AI just turned serious.

Job placements for graduates of one of the world’s most prestigious business schools have fallen to the lowest levels in more than five years, in a sign of the slowdown in demand for recruitment for even highly qualified candidates.

This time last year, most economists expected the US Federal Reserve would be spending 2023 facing down a recession while fighting against the biggest wave of inflation for a generation.

结构公式: The simmering [长期矛盾] between [A] and [B] over [议题] just turned serious.

FT例句:

The simmering war between the tech and media industries over generative AI just turned serious.

There are more and more conflicts…(冲突越来越多)。记者写的是「冲突的性质变了」:从 simmering(潜伏)到 serious(公开化)。

Now there are more and more problems between students and phones.

The simmering war between students and their phones over attention just turned serious.

💡 效果 升级版只改了两处:problems 换成 war, more and more 换成 just turned serious。

For a technology that raises profound questions about the way things like text, images and music are produced and used, the legal challenges this year have been surprisingly few and far between.

结构公式: For a [事物] that raises profound questions about [抽象议题], [现象] have been surprisingly few and far between.

  • The simmering tension between [A] and [B] over [议题] just turned serious.
The simmering tension between parents and schools over screen time just turned serious.

结构公式: [指标] for [对象] have fallen to the lowest levels in more than [时间段], in a sign of [趋势].

FT例句:

Job placements for graduates of one of the world’s most prestigious business schools have fallen to the lowest levels in more than five years, in a sign of the slowdown in demand for recruitment for even highly qualified candidates.

The number is getting smaller and smaller.

Our school library is used less and less by students now.

Borrowings at our school library have fallen to the lowest levels in more than five years, in a sign of the slowdown in reading for pleasure.

  • [指标] have fallen to the lowest levels in more than [时间段], in a sign of [趋势]
Volunteer sign-ups have fallen to the lowest levels in more than three years, in a sign of the fading appeal of community service.

This time last year, most [专家群体] expected [主体] would be [V-ing].... Instead, [现实].

FT例句:

This time last year, most economists expected the US Federal Reserve would be spending 2023 facing down a recession while fighting against the biggest wave of inflation for a generation.

Many people thought online classes would end soon, but now they are still here.

This time last year, most parents expected online classes would disappear as soon as the pandemic eased. Instead, half of our lessons are still taught on screen.

💡 效果 升级版把 but 换成了三步:时间坐标(This time last year)→ 集体预期(most parents expected)→ 现实反转(Instead)。

  • This time last year, most [群体] expected [主体] would [预期].... Instead, [现实]
This time last year, most teachers expected paper homework would disappear. Instead, half the class still hands in notebooks.

The simmering tension between [A] and [B] over [议题] just turned serious.
改写成 have fallen to the lowest levels in more than [时间段], in a sign of ...。
This time last year, most people expected ... Instead, ...
