The government made a new policy. The price went down.
English:
A pollution crackdown in China’s rustbelt is starting to weigh down on the price of iron ore, the steelmaking ingredient that is the biggest generator of profits for leading miners.
The trigger for the drop is concern that Beijing — which is aiming for peak emissions by 2030 before hitting “carbon neutrality” by 2060 — is working on new policy measures to clean up its vast steelmaking industry and clamp down on excess capacity.
In a sign of how seriously Beijing is taking the issue, an inspection team led by the Minister of Ecology and Environment visited China’s top steelmaking city Tangshan last week, according to MySteel Global, a Chinese price reporting agency, to check on supply curbs ordered by the local government under an emergency anti-pollution plan.
“Tangshan’s current pollution emergency regime might be temporary, but the city also targets a cut to steel-related emissions by 40 per cent in 2021 and the government is working on a stricter steel capacity replacement plan, making continued headwinds to China’s steel output likely,” said Marius van Straaten, analyst at Morgan Stanley.
“This reflects mounting evidence that supply is shifting toward a sustained recovery and also that China’s environmental policies will reinforce a peak in iron ore imports.”
A pollution crackdown in China’s rustbelt is starting to weigh down on the price of iron ore”
学生写“政策让价格下降”常常用 make the price go down,动作很扁平;换成 weigh down on,压力源、承受对象、方向全都写进去了。
The new rule made the price of the product go down.
A series of new emission rules has started to weigh down on steel prices across the region.
原文出处: “is working on new policy measures to clean up its vast steelmaking industry and clamp down on excess capacity”
clamp down on sth
The government wants to stop factories from producing too much.
Regulators are clamping down on factories that exceed their emission quotas.
3. the trigger for the drop is —— 引发(下跌/变化)的因素是……
The trigger for the drop is concern that Beijing … is working on new policy measures”
学生写原因只会 because、the reason is,把所有原因排成一条直线;the trigger for + 名词 + is…
The price went down because the government made new rules.
The trigger for the fall in sales was concern that the new tax would push up costs.
4. headwinds to —— 对……
原文出处: “making continued headwinds to China’s steel output likely”
The company will have many difficulties in the future.
Rising energy costs are likely to create fresh headwinds to the industry’s recovery.
This reflects mounting evidence that supply is shifting toward a sustained recovery and also that China’s environmental policies will reinforce a peak in iron ore imports.”
学生写论据只会 many facts show、some people think;用 mounting evidence that,既可以引出一条判断,还可以用 and also that 再叠一条,论证密度立刻抬高。
Many facts show that students need more sleep.
There is mounting evidence that early school starts harm teenagers’ health, and also that later starts improve their grades.
这5个表达连起来,就是一条完整的**“政策影响链”**:先用 clamp down on 写政策动作,再用 weigh down on 写它压住了什么,用 the trigger for … is 交代因果关系,用 headwinds to 判断未来阻力,最后用 mounting evidence that 给出你的判断依据。
To curb plastic waste, many cities have begun to clamp down on single-use packaging. The immediate trigger for the change is concern about marine pollution, but the move will also create headwinds to small restaurants already squeezed by rising costs. There is mounting evidence that such rules work only when recycling systems improve at the same time.
We should protect the environment
