四个对比与条件衔接技巧
技巧一：[was/were] widely seen as X, but Y —— 预期 vs 现实的强烈反转
原文：
Germany was widely seen to have coped much better with the pandemic’s first wave than many of its neighbours … But the second wave has hit the country much harder.
为什么好？ 先用 “was widely seen” 建立”公众认知/普遍预期”，然后用 “But” 彻底反转。这种”预期→现实”的对比结构，比单纯写 “Germany did well in the first wave but badly in the second” 有力得多。

✅ 升级版

💡 效果 “was widely seen” 暗示”全世界都这么认为”——为后面的 “But” 制造了更大的反转张力。
例句： China was widely seen to have controlled the pandemic effectively in early 2020. But the Omicron wave posed unprecedented challenges even for the strictest containment measures.
技巧二：in spite of / despite + noun phrase —— 让步结构更紧凑
原文：
France is also struggling … in spite of a nationwide lockdown that was due to be further eased next week.
为什么好？ “in spite of” + 名词短语，比 “although there was a lockdown” 更简洁。而且 “in spite of” 在学术写作中比 “despite” 更正式一些，适合议论文。

💡 效果 “in spite of” 把让步关系压缩在一个短语里，句子更紧凑、节奏更快。

技巧三：While X, Y —— 让步中的对比
原文：
While the second goal is within reach, the number of new infections is still running at more than 10,000 a day.
为什么好？ 这里的 “While” 不是”当……时”，而是”虽然/尽管”——表示让步中的对比。“While X, Y” 比 “Although X, Y” 更灵活，因为它天然带有”对比”的意味：X 是好消息，Y 是坏消息。

技巧四：Despite all our efforts, X —— 全力付出后的无奈结局
原文：
“Despite all our efforts, we are still faced with a high risk of a rebound of the epidemic.”
为什么好？ “Despite all our efforts” 是一个固定搭配，表达”尽管我们尽了全力，结果却还是……”。这个结构特别适合议论文中”承认努力→指出问题”的论证步骤。

✅ 升级版
Despite all our efforts, we are still faced with a high risk of a rebound.
💡 效果 “Despite all our efforts” 比 “We tried hard but…” 更正式、更有分量，读起来像官方声明或专家评论。
