为什么学生作文像”流水账”?

很多学生写生活类作文,总是「First, I… Then, I… Finally, I…」三步走。句子短、结构平、没有亮点。

但好的英文叙事文,不是用连接词堆出来的——而是用句型的变化制造节奏

今天我们从《金融时报》一篇关于澳大利亚疫情防控的个人叙事文中,提取 3 个万能句型公式。这篇文章由FT记者 Jamie Smyth 亲身经历写成,虽然讲的是疫情,但句型结构适用于任何生活类话题:一次经历、一个对比、一次观察。

FT原文精选

When I came down with a nasty head cold last week, my first concern was not Covid-19, but that I would miss coaching my son’s team for their first game of the cricket season.

My nonchalant reaction to developing symptoms reflects the phenomenal success Australia has achieved in suppressing the virus.

Australians can now worry about relatively frivolous activities, such as attending kids’ sport — and that is a luxury few people in Europe or the US currently enjoy.

句型一:「Not X, but Y」对比结构

原文:

When I came down with a nasty head cold last week, my first concern was not Covid-19, but that I would miss coaching my son’s team for their first game of the cricket season.

结构公式:

When [事件] happened, [人物]‘s first concern was not [A], but [B]

为什么好: 大多数学生写「I was worried about…」,直接陈述。而「not X, but Y」的结构制造了一个转折期待——读者以为你要说A,结果你在意的是B。这种「意外感」就是高级写作的起点。

❌ 学生初版

When I got sick, I was worried about my exam.

✅ 升级版

When I came down with a fever last week, my first concern was not the exam, but that I would miss my best friend’s birthday party.

💡 效果 从「直述担忧」变成「对比两个担忧」,句子有了层次和故事感。

模板:

When [event] happened, [person]‘s first concern was not [A], but [B]

例句迁移:

  • When I received the test results, my first concern was not the score itself, but whether I could still get into my dream university.
  • When the company announced layoffs, employees’ first concern was not the pay cut, but the loss of their colleagues.

句型二:复杂名词短语 + reflects

原文:

My nonchalant reaction to developing symptoms reflects the phenomenal success Australia has achieved in suppressing the virus.

结构公式:

[Possessive + adjective] reaction to [gerund/noun] reflects the [adjective] [noun] [entity] has achieved in [gerund/noun]

为什么好: 多数学生写「This shows that…」开头的简单句。而这个句型用一个高度浓缩的名词短语做主语(“my nonchalant reaction to developing symptoms”),后面用 reflects 连接一个名词性结论。主语本身就是一个小故事,信息密度极高。

❌ 学生初版

My school has done a good job in teaching English. This shows our hard work.

✅ 升级版

My school’s remarkable progress in English education reflects the phenomenal effort our teachers have put into designing engaging lessons.

💡 效果 主语不再是简单的「I」或「My school」,而是一个有修饰语的名词短语,整句话立刻显得成熟。

模板:

[Possessive + adjective] [noun] in [gerund] reflects the [adjective] [noun] [entity] has achieved in [gerund]

例句迁移:

  • My parents’ calm reaction to my disappointing exam results reflects the deep trust they have built in my ability to improve.
  • The city’s swift response to the natural disaster reflects the careful preparation the government has made in disaster prevention.

句型三:Dash + “that is a luxury” 情感收尾

原文:

Australians can now worry about relatively frivolous activities, such as attending kids’ sport — and that is a luxury few people in Europe or the US currently enjoy.

结构公式:

[Subject] can now [verb] about [something], such as [example] — and that is a [noun] few [people/places] currently [verb]

为什么好: 这个句型的高级之处在于用破折号后的对比来制造情感冲击。前半句说「澳洲人可以操心一些小事」,后半句通过「that is a luxury few…currently enjoy」点出——这在欧美是奢侈。一个短句,两种视角,读起来很有力量。

❌ 学生初版

We can now enjoy outdoor activities. But people in other countries cannot do this.

✅ 升级版

Students in our school can now participate in outdoor sports clubs, such as hiking and cycling — and that is a luxury few young people in war-torn regions currently enjoy.

💡 效果 破折号让后半句有了「点睛」的效果,比用「but」连接更有冲击力。

模板:

[Subject] can now [verb] about [something], such as [example] — and that is a [noun] few [people/places/entities] currently [verb]

例句迁移:

  • Residents can now walk freely in the park, such as jogging or reading under the trees — and that is a privilege few people in crowded metropolises currently have.
  • We can now focus on relatively trivial concerns, such as choosing what to eat for lunch — and that is a comfort few struggling families currently experience.

写作建议

这三个句型分别解决了叙事文写作的三大痛点:

  1. 「Not X, but Y」 → 解决「开头太直白」
  2. 「名词短语 + reflects」 → 解决「主语太单调」
  3. 「Dash + that is a luxury」 → 解决「结尾太平淡」

练习方法:

  • 第一周:每天写一个「Not X, but Y」句子,写一周
  • 第二周:把句子的主语换成复杂名词短语
  • 第三周:尝试在文章末尾用破折号结尾
  • 把这三个句型抄在小卡片上,贴在书桌前

不要一次性全用在一篇文章里——一篇用1-2个就够了,用对地方比用得多重要。
