❌ “Lee Jae-yong is the head of Samsung. He was sentenced to prison for bribery.”
FT №64 — South Korean court sends Samsung head back to jail for bribery(2021年1月)
South Korea’s appeals court has thrown Samsung’s Lee Jae-yong back in jail for bribery, in a landmark ruling that will leave the country’s biggest conglomerate without its top decision maker for a year-and-a-half.
The billionaire, who was immediately detained after the ruling, will only spend 18 months behind bars as he previously spent a year in prison.
The final ruling is a setback for Samsung, whose electronics unit is the world’s biggest manufacturer of computer chips, smartphones and electronic displays.
The case has been watched closely as a test of the government’s resolve in reforming South Korea’s powerful family-run conglomerates, known as chaebol.
Lee has been the de facto head of Samsung since 2014 when his father, and then chairman Lee Kun-hee, suffered a heart attack.
“Today’s ruling is too generous,” said Park Sang-in, an economics professor at Seoul National University.
President Moon Jae-in, a former human rights lawyer entering the final 12 months of a five-year term, on Monday sought to defend his attempts to reform powerful family-owned conglomerates like Samsung and Hyundai.
The billionaire, who was immediately detained…”
The billionaire, who was immediately detained after the ruling, will only spend 18 months behind bars.
Lee Jae-yong is a billionaire. He was detained after the ruling. He will spend 18 months in prison.
The billionaire, who was immediately detained after the ruling, will only spend 18 months behind bars.
Samsung’s Lee Jae-yong”
South Korea’s appeals court has thrown Samsung’s Lee Jae-yong back in jail for bribery.
同样结构的还有 his father, and then chairman Lee Kun-hee——职务(chairman)直接贴在人名前,无冠词、无介词,是英文里最紧凑的”关系名片”。
Lee Jae-yong is the head of Samsung. His father was the chairman before him.
The court threw Samsung’s Lee Jae-yong back in jail. Lee has been the de facto head since 2014, when his father, and then chairman Lee Kun-hee, suffered a heart attack.
…reforming South Korea’s powerful family-run conglomerates, known as chaebol.
It means…”.
Korea has powerful family-run conglomerates. They are called chaebol. The government wants to reform them.
The case tests the government’s resolve in reforming South Korea’s powerful family-run conglomerates, known as chaebol.
President Moon Jae-in, a former human rights lawyer entering…”
President Moon Jae-in, a former human rights lawyer entering the final 12 months of a five-year term, on Monday sought to defend his attempts to reform powerful family-owned conglomerates.
Moon Jae-in is the president of South Korea. He used to be a human rights lawyer. He is entering his final year. He wants to reform conglomerates.
President Moon Jae-in, a former human rights lawyer entering the final 12 months of a five-year term, sought to defend his attempts to reform conglomerates.
(Samsung’s Lee Jae-yong / his father, and then chairman)用于交代人物和组织、亲缘的关系;同义改写式(known as chaebol)用于处理术语和外来词;并列身份式(a former lawyer entering…)
