This policy caused many problems. It affected the whole economy.

Global investors sold almost $2bn of Chinese stocks on Monday as Beijing’s crackdown on education companies raised fears of more regulatory tightening across the world’s second-biggest economy.
The market tumult was sparked by a move by Beijing over the weekend to ban academic tuition groups from making profits, raising capital or going public. News of the measures, which were unveiled via a leaked memo and were later confirmed, wiped about $16bn from the value of three of the sector’s biggest companies on Friday.
Investors said the crackdown, which followed regulatory moves to rein in financial and technology companies including ride-hailing app Didi Chuxing and ecommerce group Alibaba, raised concerns that no sector would avoid more stringent policing.
“The growing speed and intensity of these crackdowns is unprecedented,” said Frank Benzimra, head of equity strategy at Société Générale.
The Hong Kong-listed shares of New Oriental Education, one of the sector’s heavyweights, plunged almost 40 per cent on Monday, taking the stock’s losses to about 60 per cent over two sessions.
“We can’t say what sector will be the next that the Chinese government wants more control over,” said Dickie Wong, head of research at Hong Kong brokerage Kingston Securities. “This will create fear and selling pressure in the near term.”

Global investors sold almost $2bn of Chinese stocks on Monday as Beijing’s crackdown on education companies raised fears of more regulatory tightening across the world’s second-biggest economy.
raised fears of more regulatory tightening across the world's second-biggest economy—— 从一次抛售推到整个经济体的监管预期,这就是外推。
The new policy made investors worried, and it may affect the whole economy.
Global investors sold almost $2bn of Chinese stocks as the crackdown on education companies raised fears of more regulatory tightening across the economy.
[主体] [动作 + 数字] as [导火索] raised fears of more [趋势] across [范围].
Parents withdrew about 300 applications in one week as the new admission rules raised fears of more restrictions across the district.
The market tumult was sparked by a move by Beijing over the weekend to ban academic tuition groups from making profits, raising capital or going public. News of the measures, which were unveiled via a leaked memo and were later confirmed, wiped about $16bn from the value of three of the sector’s biggest companies on Friday.
was sparked by a move ... to ban [对象] from doing A, B or C把「谁做了什么」压进一句,from making profits, raising capital or going public顺手交代政策的三条边界;which were unveiled via a leaked memo and were later confirmed交代消息的来源与可信度(泄密备忘录 → 随后证实)——读者要先用这个数字,你就得先证明数字站得住;wiped about $16bn from the value of three of the sector's biggest companies用「抹掉多少 + 涉及几家」把打击量级钉死。
The government announced some new rules about tutoring companies, and the companies lost a lot of money.
The market tumult was sparked by a move to ban academic tuition groups from making profits, raising capital or going public. The measures wiped about $16bn from the value of three of the sector’s biggest companies.
some new rules 和 a lot of money 读者无法量化;ban ... from doing A, B or C 与 wiped about $16bn from the value of three ... companies 让「打击力度」和「损失规模」都变成可核查的事实。
模板
[现象] was sparked by a move to ban [对象] from [A], [B] or [C]. The measures wiped about [金额] from the value of [N] of the sector’s biggest companies.
The protests were sparked by a move to ban students from using phones, taking notes on tablets or joining online clubs. The rules wiped out about 40 per cent of the club’s membership in one term.
Investors said the crackdown, which followed regulatory moves to rein in financial and technology companies including ride-hailing app Didi Chuxing and ecommerce group Alibaba, raised concerns that no sector would avoid more stringent policing.
Beijing has launched successive crackdowns on fast-growing sectors over the past year. Regulators in November pulled the plug on the record $37bn initial public offering of Ant Group, a fintech company controlled by billionaire Jack Ma, at the last minute. That was followed by a broader clampdown on technology groups … Shortly after Didi’s New York IPO this month, new rules were introduced governing listings abroad for Chinese companies whose data-gathering activity covers more than 1m users.
which followed [前例清单]把单个事件挂到一串已发生的事件后面:这不是意外,而是模式;raised concerns that no sector would avoid more stringent policing是全篇的外推极点——从三个行业一路推到「没有行业能幸免」;- 后段用
The government has also done similar things to other companies before, so everyone is afraid now.
The crackdown, which followed regulatory moves to rein in financial and technology companies, raised concerns that no sector would avoid more stringent policing.
also done similar things before 是一句模糊的历史;which followed [具体清单] 是可核查的序列。
[事件], which followed [前例 A] and [前例 B], raised concerns that no [范围] would avoid [后果].
The fine, which followed warnings to delivery platforms and ride-hailing apps, raised concerns that no online business would escape closer scrutiny.
The Hong Kong-listed shares of New Oriental Education, one of the sector’s heavyweights, plunged almost 40 per cent on Monday, taking the stock’s losses to about 60 per cent over two sessions.
plunged almost 40 per cent on Monday),再用taking ... to ... over two sessions补累计跌幅——同一个事实被读了两次; one of the sector's heavyweights用同位语交代这家公司有多少分量,跌幅才有意义;plunged/tumbled/shed这一组动词,比 went down 更能传达幅度。
The share price went down a lot, and it was a very bad day for the company.
Shares of New Oriental Education, one of the sector’s heavyweights, plunged almost 40 per cent, taking the company’s losses to about 60 per cent over two sessions.
[主体], one of [范围]‘s heavyweights, [涨跌动词] almost [X] per cent on [时间], taking [其损失/涨幅] to about [Y] per cent over [时段].
The club, one of the region’s biggest, lost almost 40 members in September, taking its losses to about 60 over two terms.
“The growing speed and intensity of these crackdowns is unprecedented,” said Frank Benzimra, head of equity strategy at Société Générale.
“We can’t say what sector will be the next that the Chinese government wants more control over,” said Dickie Wong, head of research at Hong Kong brokerage Kingston Securities. “This will create fear and selling pressure in the near term.”
The growing speed and intensity of these crackdowns):一句话概括整段事实,比 very serious 精确得多; - 第二位分析师先说不知道(
We can't say what sector will be the next),再说知道什么(This will create fear and selling pressure in the near term)——承认不确定,短期结论反而更可信; in the near term给结论加上了时间边界,避免「永远如何如何」这种撑不住的判断。
Nobody knows what will happen next, so it is really dangerous.
Analysts said they could not say which sector would be next, but warned that this would create fear and selling pressure in the near term.
Nobody knows what will happen next
“[趋势判断],” said [姓名], [职称] at [机构].
“The pace of these inspections is unprecedented,” said Li Wei, a researcher at a local policy institute. “We cannot say which school will be next. But this will create uncertainty in the near term.”
That was followed by …),落点是「还会波及谁」。
- 有没有一个可核查的动作?(卖掉 20 亿美元股票 / 下架 App / 罚款)而不是「很多人反对」;
- 影响有没有范围词?(across the economy / no sector / the whole district)范围越大,越要先给前例和数字;
- 结论有没有时间边界?(in the near term / within one year)把话说满,反而丢掉分数。
- 雅思 Task 2 里 technology / regulation / environment 的题目,凡是写 it will have a big impact on society 的地方,都可以按「动作 → 可量化反应 → 范围 → 时间边界」重写一遍。
