批改作文时,最后一个自然段几乎是可以预判的:“In the future, our life will be better and better. Technology will change the world and make everything easier.”
Government stimulus packages and the shift towards electrification to meet the goals of the Paris agreement on climate change are expected to fuel further demand for the metal, which analysts and industry executives believe could hit $15,000 a tonne by 2025.
“Capacity utilisation rates of our customers are the highest in a decade and that’s before stimulus money both in Europe and the US has started to flow,” said Kostas Bintas, head of copper trading at Trafigura, one of the world’s biggest independent commodity traders. “That will be significant.”
“The current pipeline of projects likely to start producing in the next few years represents only 2.3 per cent of forecast mine supply,” said Daniel Haynes, analyst at banking group ANZ. “This is well down on previous cycles, including 2010-13 when it reached 12 per cent.”
The upward march of other raw materials is showing no signs of abating. … In spite of production cuts in Tangshan and Handan, two key steelmaking cities in China, analysts expect output to remain solid over the next couple of quarters.
结构公式: [驱动力A] and [驱动力B] are expected to [动作] [对象], which [预测主体群体] believe could [极值结果] by [时间坐标]
FT写法:
Government stimulus packages and the shift towards electrification to meet the goals of the Paris agreement on climate change are expected to fuel further demand for the metal, which analysts and industry executives believe could hit $15,000 a tonne by 2025.
一个句子里做了四件事:两个驱动力(各国刺激计划 + 电气化转型)→ 无人称被动预测 are expected to fuel → 点名预测主体 which analysts and industry executives believe → 极值 + 时间坐标 could hit $15,000 a tonne by 2025。
In the future, technology will make our life better and better.
Government spending on digital classrooms and the shift to online learning are expected to fuel demand for educational technology, which teachers and school leaders believe could cut the time spent on marking by a third by 2030.
结构公式: [指标] are the highest in a [时间跨度] and that's before [更大的变量] has started to [动作](+ 一句独立的短判断收锤)
FT写法:
“Capacity utilisation rates of our customers are the highest in a decade and that’s before stimulus money both in Europe and the US has started to flow,” … “That will be significant.”
the highest in a decade 是一个十年坐标,比 very high 强十倍。真正妙的是后半句:and that's before stimulus money has started to flow——用现在完成时说明”更大的还没来”,于是”现状”自己变成了”加速”。 That will be significant.
Students now study much better than before. It is very good.
Reading rates in our class are the highest in five years, and that’s before the library extension opens in October. That will be significant.
结构公式: The [当前项目/存量] likely to [动作] in the next few years represents only [X] per cent of [预测基数] + This is well down on [上一周期], including [年份] when it reached [Y] per cent
FT写法:
“The current pipeline of projects likely to start producing in the next few years represents only 2.3 per cent of forecast mine supply,” said Daniel Haynes, analyst at banking group ANZ. “This is well down on previous cycles, including 2010-13 when it reached 12 per cent.”
FT 没有写 supply will be very limited,而是把未来的存量量化:only 2.3 per cent of forecast mine supply——注意 forecast 这个词,预测句里嵌预测;接着用一个历史参照系 well down on previous cycles, including 2010-13 when it reached 12 per cent 把 2.3% 变成”少”。
In the future there will not be enough teachers, so the problem will be serious.
The number of graduates training to teach physics in our province is likely to cover only 40 per cent of the retirement gap in the next five years — well down on the 2016 level, when it covered 85 per cent.
结构公式: The [趋势名词] of [对象] is showing no signs of abating/In spite of [现实制约], analysts expect [对象] to remain solid over the next [时段]
FT写法:
The upward march of other raw materials is showing no signs of abating. … In spite of production cuts in Tangshan and Handan, two key steelmaking cities in China, analysts expect output to remain solid over the next couple of quarters.
The upward march of other raw materials 做趋势判断,配 is showing no signs of abating(没有减弱的迹象);第二句是带让步的短预测——In spite of [减产] 先承认反方向的现实,再 analysts expect output to remain solid over the next couple of quarters 锁定时间窗口。
学生用 will 说未来,一开口就是几十年起步(in the future, in 50 years)。预测越短越好:over the next couple of quarters(未来几个季度)、by the end of the year、in the next five years——时间窗口越小,句子越具体;越小,也越不容易被推翻。
In the future, the environment will become more and more important in our life.
Public demand for greener packaging is showing no signs of abating. In spite of higher costs for recyclable materials, analysts expect supermarkets to keep expanding paper-based options over the next two years.
by 2025、over the next two years、within a decade——总要有一个。
if / unless / in spite of这类限定,让预测显得克制而不是喊话?
In the future, our school will have more computers and technology will help students learn better. Everything will be more convenient and easier.
