读《金融时报》学英文写作：论证方法——「先让步，再反驳」的高级写法
让步反驳：议论文的”以退为进”
你见过这样的作文开头吗？
“Nowadays, more and more people think the government should help poor countries. I agree.”
这不是论证，是表态。真正高分的议论文，懂得先承认对方观点有道理，再亮出自己的证据——这叫让步反驳（concede and counter）。它的威力在于：读者觉得你公平、理性，所以当你反驳时，他们更愿意相信你。
今天用《金融时报》关于美国拒绝向发展中国家捐赠疫苗的报道，拆解让步反驳的3种核心句式。这篇报道本身就是一场完美的”让步-反驳”演示：美国官员一边承认”我们暂时不能分享疫苗”，一边给出”但我们在做别的”。

Macron told the Financial Times this week that Europe and the US should urgently donate up to 5 per cent of their current vaccine supplies to developing countries, including in Africa, where Covid-19 inoculation campaigns have barely started.
“Our current focus is on vaccinating Americans, getting shots in arms here,” one official said during a briefing with reporters.
However, the second official said the US would make 2bn of funding available “almost immediately” to Covax, the global initiative to supply vaccines to developing countries.
“While we’re not able to share vaccine doses at this time… we’re working hard to support Covax and strengthen global vaccination around the world,” the official added.

三个让步反驳句式
句式一：While让步——“承认做不到，但正在做别的”
原文出处： “While we’re not able to share vaccine doses at this time… we’re working hard to support Covax.”
为什么好： 这是让步反驳的经典结构。While + 对方期待/自己的不足 + 主句 + 自己的实际行动。先顺着对方的期待说”我们确实暂时做不到”，再用”but”（这里用主句转折）给出替代行动。既不失立场，又显得负责任。
❌ 学生初版
We can’t give vaccines now. But we will give money.
✅ 升级版
While we are not able to share vaccine doses at this time, we are working hard to support global vaccination through other means.
💡 效果 学生版是两个断裂的句子，升级版用”While + 让步从句”把两件事焊接成一个完整逻辑。用在任何争议话题上都行：“While banning phones may reduce distractions, it cuts students off from digital learning tools.”
句式二：However转折——让步之后立刻反击
原文出处： “However, the second official said the US would make 2bn of funding available ‘almost immediately’ to Covax.”
为什么好： 让步反驳不能只”让”不”驳”。这里作者先用第一段呈现马克龙的提案（对方观点），再用 However 亮出美国的实际回应（2bn资金）。先铺垫对方的立场，再用However转出己方的事实，读者的注意力被”转折”牢牢抓住。

France asked America to donate vaccines. America said no. America gave money to Covax.
✅ 升级版
Macron urged the US to donate up to 5 per cent of its vaccine supplies to developing countries. However, Washington declined, choosing instead to make 2bn available to the global Covax initiative.
💡 效果 三句流水账变成”对方观点 → However → 己方行动”的两步结构。注意升级版用”declined, choosing instead to…”压缩信息，比”said no. gave money”高级得多。
句式三：条件限定——“不是不给，是时候未到”
原文出处： “Another official said US President Joe Biden had asked administration staff to look into options for donating ‘surplus’ vaccines ‘once there is a sufficient supply’ to meet domestic demand.”
为什么好： 最高级的反驳是不否定对方的诉求，只限定时间条件。“surplus”（富余）和”once there is a sufficient supply”（一旦供应充足）就是这套逻辑：我们认同捐赠目标，但必须等条件成熟。这样既回应了批评，又守住了立场。

We will donate vaccines later.
✅ 升级版
Officials said the US would look into donating surplus vaccines once there is a sufficient supply to meet domestic demand.
💡 效果 “once + 条件”把”拒绝”改写成”有条件的承诺”，姿态完全不同。雅思大作文写环保、写教育公平都能用：“Students should be allowed to use AI tools once they have mastered the basic writing skills.”——先让步给使用自由，再限定前提条件，论证滴水不漏。
写作建议
让步反驳的黄金结构：对方观点 → While让步 → However反驳 → 条件/行动收尾
练习时给自己一个模板：
- 第一句：客观复述对方观点（Some people argue that…）
- 第二句：While承认其合理性（While there is some truth in this…）
- 第三句：However亮出己方证据（However, …）
- 第四句：用条件或行动收束（once… / by doing…）
