“I think AI is good because it helps us study. Second, it makes life convenient. Third, it saves time.”

The polls were not viewed as a bellwether of support for Moon’s overtures to North Korea’s Kim Jong Un. But they have raised uncertainty over Seoul’s foreign policy direction.

June Park, a Seoul-based political economist with George Washington University, says the political situation is “disturbing” with a lack of charismatic presidential candidates and the direction far from clear on issues such as relations with North Korea, China and the US.

But Kim has also cut engagement with Moon, an effort to pressure the South Korean president into offering bigger concessions.

John Delury, an Asia expert at Yonsei University in Seoul, believed, however, there would not be a “radical turn” if conservatives returned to power next year given most South Koreans generally support forging closer ties with North Korea.

“Are the conservatives going to come in with a confrontational approach to North Korea? I don’t think that is very popular,” he said.

Concession + Counterpoint — “Not X, but Y” 让步反驳

The polls were not viewed as a bellwether … But they have raised uncertainty …

结构公式: [现象 / 共识] + not viewed as / not seen as + [通俗的看法] + but + [更深层的意义]

This election will change the foreign policy.

The polls were not viewed as a bellwether of support for Moon’s overtures to North Korea. But they have raised uncertainty over Seoul’s foreign policy direction.

[Event] was not seen as [simple/obvious interpretation]. But it has raised [deeper concern / uncertainty / questions about…].

  • The survey was not viewed as a definitive verdict on climate policy. But it has raised deeper questions about public trust in green initiatives.*

专家 A — June Park(倾向”担忧”):

June Park … says the political situation is “disturbing” … the direction far from clear

专家 B — John Delury(倾向”不必过度担忧”):

John Delury … believed, however, there would not be a “radical turn” …

  2. however 放在句中believed, however, there would not beHowever, he believed...

Some experts are worried. Other experts are not worried. I agree with the second one.

June Park, a political economist, says the political situation is “disturbing.” John Delury, an Asia expert, believed, however, there would not be a radical turn. “I don’t think that is very popular,” he said.

Still, the election results were a striking turnround from a year ago when the Democratic party stormed to its first legislative majority in 16 years on the back of resounding public approval …

But the result was very different from last year.

Still, the election results were a striking turnround from a year ago when the Democratic party stormed to its first legislative majority in 16 years.

💡 效果 “striking turnround” 比 “very different” 有力得多;“stormed to its first … in 16 years” 提供了具体的历史背景。

Still, [recent event/data] marks a [striking / significant / notable] [turnround / shift / departure] from [previous period], when [contrasting situation].

  • Still, the policy shift marks a striking departure from the previous administration, when strict regulations were the norm.*

专家引语的结构:“[Name], [title/role], [says/believed]/[verb], [however], [判断]”
